Merry... Makahiki?

Last week it snowed in downtown San Francisco, it was minus two degrees in Colorado, and one homesick Kauaian spent hours trapped on I-5 when a storm closed the Grapevine.
Our condolences. We're trying not to feel guilty-really-but lately our weather has been pure perfection. Dazzling blue skies, a sudden crispness in the air, the occasional die-hard surfer wearing long pants... it's winter on Kauai.
We are midway into the Makahiki holiday season, proving once again that the ancient Hawaiians really knew how to live. This annual festival of the harvest was a time of rest and renewal, purification and celebration.
Work and war were taboo. The Hawaiians paid tribute to their chiefs, honored their gods, and spent the rest of their days playing, dancing, and feasting. Now, that's the aloha spirit.
Oh, and it lasted four months.
If there's anything we at KOA can do to help you plan your next holiday, let us know. Just remember: flip flops are mandatory, long pants are entirely optional.
